Hiking in Belgium: discover our favourite itineraries and routes

Ahhhh Belgium, our beautiful flat country! Between the forests of Wallonia and the great plains of Flanders, we can confirm that the landscapes are very different and not at all similar. Contrary to what many of us may imagine… Hiking in Belgium is quite varied!

Loop routes

We prefer loop routes. The idea is simple: find a strategic place to park the car and follow an itinerary that will allow us to come back to it without going back on our steps or turning back. We like to see as much as possible in one trip!

Sharing our GPX tracks

In each of our articles about hiking in Belgium, we share our route with you. These can be downloaded for free on our Wikiloc account. You can find us there under the nickname “Baroudeurs Liégeois”. If you prefer, you can also download our tracks from the Suunto application. You can then display them directly on your phone or watch.

Combining hiking and outdoor adventures

As nature lovers, we like to combine our hikes and walks with other outdoor adventures, especially packraft. The packraft is a very light portable kayak that you can carry in your backpack. This opens up all the possibilities in terms of itinerary.

We also like to go out and pick the fruits of the season. When you walk for miles, you might as well bring back a snack!

Walking with your dog: ideal hiking routes to do with your four-legged friends

We are big dog lovers. We recently adopted a little red English Cocker to accompany us on our adventures. Louna, my parents’ young Golden Retriever, also accompanies us from time to time. In this case, we prefer routes that pass near water.

Do you prefer hiking in Wallonia or Flanders?

As Walloons from Liège, we are not so used to travelling to the north of the country. Although this part of the country is full of attractive places that we will soon discover!
